golf gift
earthling asked:

Hi, yesterday I was backing out of my parking space and hit a maintenance man in our apartment complex. He was driving a golf cart and wasn’t hurt except for a little bump on his head. I damaged the golf cart a bit and my car and filed insurance reports. I feel really bad about hitting him and the shock he went through; would it be appropriate to send him a card along with a $25 gift card to a restaurant, would he be allowed to accept it and also would he think I’m just doing because he’s afraid I’ll sue? Anyway I feel pretty badly about it and told him how sorry I was but still would like to do something nice for him.

John

the card sounds like a good idea, but not the gift card. Stay away from sending anything with monetary value it could be considered a settlement. The card could admit guilt, but if your not disputing that then send it.

I’d probably stick with apologizing profusely and checking up on him next time you see him. Anything else could be construed as a bribe, should he ever decide that he DOES want to sue you, and that would make you look really bad.

definitly a ” I am so sorry” hallmark greeting card. You can heal alotof damage that you cause himjust with a simple greeting card. Next time, be a little bit more careful, next time the other person would want to press charges..Good luck!!

Absolutely not! Send him a letter that he needs to sign and return, stating that he will not sue you at a further date.

Sending a gift is an admission of guilt. Don’t be stupid.
